St. Croix diary

I spent Christmas in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. My father used to do research there every summer, studying a fish called the Blue Head Wrasse and my sister was born there. Combined over the years I probably spent just under two years living there when I was younger, but I hadn't been back in 6 years. I've scanned some sketches from my diary below:

Map of the island

Iguana sitting on a wall by the house we were staying in. They lived under the pool and shat on the deck.

A hermit crab my mother found.

This is on the beach near house the we used to live in.

The view from the porch of the house we were staying in, looking South.

Major website update

Just finished a big overhaul of the website. Pretty much an entirely new skin and a big update and restructuring to the illustration portfolio section. This is an image from the CV section, but take a look at the site to see it all.

Doppelganger Pgs 2 & 24

Two pages I'd done for the Doppelganger comic a bit ago; pages 2 & 24. One more finished than the other.

Senator & Friend

Yet another revamped illustration from my old portfolio, slowly building towards something that I can revamp all at once. This one's called "Senator & Friend" and is both Kathy and Toby's favorite

I made these pictures.

IF - Balloon

Illustration Friday topic - Balloon.

Busy working on some concept art for some folks and murals for Wells Fargo, so I've slowed my pace on the Doppelganger comic some. But it's still trickling out, bit by bit.

Revamped Charge

In an effort to get my house in order, I'm redrawing some simple old illustrations I've been using in my portfolio section, and coloring them. This is the first one, "Charge!"

Pgs 18 & 19

Of the doppelganger comic.

All these pages look more final than they actually are. Since I do everything with a tablet, they look inked, but they're really rough drafts. Not a lot of shading yet, etc.

More Doppelganger pages

New pages (16 & 17) from the Doppelganger comic. Page 17 took ding dong forever, but I bring the crosshatching upon myself, so I can't really complain.

Samandal 2

In a long overdue post (many months so), I did the covers for Samandal Issue 2 (Issue 1 published my Vacant Lot comic). They're a pretty amazing comics magazine published out of Lebanon. Here's the front cover (colored by them):

And it wraps around to the back cover:

And Bad Dreams was also published on the inside. Here's a snap of it.

Samandal has free issue translations online (it's published in Arabic, English and French). Here's issue one, and here's issue two. They're also available for purchase in these places.

Doppelganger

This is the first draft of page 8 in a new comic I'm wading in to, working title: Doppelganger. Looking at about 32 pages, so this one might take a bit of time to churn out.

APE stuff

APE went reasonably well for a first time. Subjecting yourself to the rejection of hundreds of your peers was more punishing that I'd expected, though. The stuff I brought was:
• A printed collection of Bad Dreams, The Vacant Lot and Spring Heeled Jack under the title "Frown Town #1" (with more numbers to come, hopefully).
Tough Break as a standalone
• Silkscreened t-shirts of the Indrind Press logo (more on that later)
• Silkscreened t-shirts of a slightly reworked version of the villains panel in Bad Dreams
• Silkscreened prints of the Mad Bunny Mask and Gasmask
• Fort Ord, which I'll put up online one of these days, a collaboration with Steven Foundling

Steve and I shared a table and were publishing under the name "Indrind Press." Steve had a Morrissey/Edward Gorey mashup that was the runaway hit of our little table, and a minicomic about unicorns and babies. I've been kicking around the idea of making up an Indrind Press website, and hopefully selling off some of our overstock from the convention. Here's the logo I'd whipped up three weeks ago for the products:

And higher rez images of the two masks:

A Tough Break

"A Tough Break," just finished last week. About the reason why I started this blog in the first place. I'll be at APE on November 2nd, running a booth under the name "Indrind Press" with Steve. We'll be selling comics, prints and shirts. Come consume with us!

Illustration dump

Back from the dead. I moved and got a job pretty much at the same time. Updating the old blog and chain got lost in the shuffle. Here's the last few illustrations that I did for The Commonwealth:

Uploading an 8 page comic that I just finished in a bit.
